The Internet of Things effectively supports the operation of businesses.
Reducing costs, streamlining logistics, reducing energy consumption, increasing production efficiency, and accurate monitoring of each stage of production translates into optimized use of resources, improving safety and the quality of services. These are the benefits for companies using the Internet of Things (IoT). Despite this, few European companies use IoT solutions, according to Eurostat data.

Professionals responsible for digital transformation and implementation of innovative solutions in their organizations have the opportunity to take part in the free webinar series – “How to avoid IoT pitfalls” - organized by the Inetum Group. Events will bring closer the issues that are important from the perspective of optimal use of the opportunities new technologies can give. The series, gathering experts from around the world, will be conducted in English.
Smart automation is a pillar of Industry 4.0 but not in Poland
Digitalization is one of the leading trends in the economy. However, not in terms of usage of the Internet of Things by businesses. Although, as GlobalData forecasts, the global IoT market will reach $1.1 trillion in revenue by 2024 (nearly doubling from 2022), at the same time, only one in three companies in the EU uses the Internet of Things, according to Eurostat data. In general, this is the domain of large enterprises, in which segment about 48% of entities have implemented such solutions. Among manufacturing companies, according to Eurostat, the percentage oscillates around 5%. What about Polish entrepreneurs in this context? They are below the average. In Poland only 19% of companies in general use IoT solutions, and barely 3% in the segment of manufacturing.
We can expect some progress in this area, though. Companies see the potential of the Internet of Things in terms of improving business efficiency or optimizing operational costs. This translates into the speeding dynamics of this market in Poland as well. Its value, according to PMR forecasts, will exceed PLN 10 billion in 2023 (about +20% y/y).\
- Polish companies are not afraid of technology. It is not surprising in the context of the fact that digital transformation is the basis of the ongoing industrial revolution. At the same time, let’s remember that smart automation is its second pillar. Therefore, information regarding the use of Internet of Things solutions by Polish entrepreneurs, including manufacturing companies, is not optimistic. Fortunately, the latest research shows that one in three companies plans to invest in new IoT solutions within 12 months – says Przemyslaw Saniak, Digital Transformation consultant at Inetum Poland.
Companies implement with bottom-up approach instead of a strategic one
There are a variety of issues blocking the implementation of smart solutions, and every business, regardless of the sector in which it operates, has to face specific problems.
- These obstacles are most often related to the lack of right regulations in companies and the cost of such an operation. At the same time, the lack of knowledge results in IoT solutions being implemented bottom-up, rather than as part of a well-thought-out company development strategy. We want to respond to the needs of entrepreneurs, hence the idea of webinars to bring the knowledge closer to an effective and strategic approach to this issue. The know-how will be based on years of experience and practical examples - comments Przemysław Saniak.
As experts point out, "setting up sensors and collecting data" is not enough. The key to success is the appropriate use of data. And to achieve this goal, a properly prepared strategy taking into account the specifics of the company is essential. Participation in a series of free webinars, aimed at the Industrial IoT sector, will allow you to gain practical knowledge, based on the experience of international specialists. Inetum is a partner of the IoT platform - Cumulocity, and its experts have been advising and implementing solutions in this area for a decade. Their experience includes working with manufacturing companies and industries from automotive, retail, and logistics. The effectiveness of the proposed solutions is appreciated by partners, among them the Dutch company KPN, whose cooperation with Inetum resulted in "translating business needs into well-functioning software."
The series for entrepreneurs starts in June
Three meetings are scheduled as part of the "How to avoid IoT pitfalls" series. During online events, experts will discuss issues such as the strategic implications and key issues of integrating IoT into an organizational fabric, the importance of IoT portfolio management, or implementing scalable solutions within a strategic and budgetary framework. The first meeting that was conducted on the 20th of June focused on the aspect of Integrating the Internet of Things into the organizational structure.
- Webinars will be beneficial for those involved in implementing or planning activities in the Internet of Things area. Taking part in webinars will allow them to find answers to key questions: how to build a "connected company", achieve scalability, and thereby better plan an effective transformation of the company's operations – says Przemysław Saniak.
